Inferus
I found myself on the edge of the dolorous valley, of the abyss where infinite laments thunder.
DANTE ALIGHIERI
Inferus, from which the show takes its title, draws symbolic, kinetic, and acoustic inspiration from Dante’s Inferno. Centered on the body and its physical and expressive possibilities, the work layers meaning through the integration of sound and light as expressive tools.
Western artistic imagery unfolds before us, intertwined with an exploration of the poetic potential of pathos and the non-human. Inferus evokes the stages and evolution of life — from primordial ecosystems to a devastated world — perhaps the very Inferno Dante envisioned, now reimagined by Gisela Riba.
A beautiful and unsettling proposal where body, light, set design, and music merge into a hypnotic and visceral dance about origin, destruction, and the ways of being in the world.
